Project CHOICE: Research Pilot Study
(in collaboration with Florida
A & M
University and Harvard University). National
Institute of Health, National
Center on Minority Health and Health
Disparity, 9/03 -8/06.
Project: The Impact of Peer Health Advocates
on Attitudes, Behaviors,
and Receipt of Services that Effect
Prematurity and Infant Mortality
in African Americans.
This pilot study examines the impact of peer
health advocates on attitudes
and behaviors of pregnant women and mothers
of children up to age 2,
identified as being at risk for poor birth
and health outcomes and in
need of case management. The hypotheses
guiding the research are that
the intervention of peer health advocates
will impact the number of appointments
kept and services received, as well as the
overall health care attitudes
and behaviors of case managed black women in
Healthy Start.
We have submitted a re-application to NIH to
expand the study.
